As a recent graduate of the U. S. Naval Academy, Annapolis, Maryland, Rick immediately joined the first United States Olympic exhibition baseball team in Mexico. Following training he was a designated a Naval Aviator and made numerous carrier deployments, held top leadership positions in carrier-based squadrons, and Pentagon shore assignments including the Joint Staff and the Secretary of the Navy’s staff. With a Masters of Science in National Resource Strategy from the Industrial College of the Armed Forces, he was the Senior Fellow on the Chief of Naval Operations Strategic Studies Group to develop innovative war fighting concepts for the 21st Century Navy. He has received numerous personal awards including the Defense Superior Service Award; Legion of Merit (3 awards); Meritorious Service Award (2 awards); and Navy Commendation Award.
Following transition from the Navy, he worked with several corporations as a senior consultant, VP and Senior VP focused on organizational and people improvement and development; integration of acquired companies; and training and human resource functions. He was a Chair for TEC International. Rick is the Founder and President of TREVANIONGROUP, LLC.
His political activity in Fort Bend County, TX includes being a delegate in Senatorial and State Conventions, a Precinct Chair, and Chairman of the Fort Bend County Republican Party. Upon stepping down from the Chairman’s position he prepared to run for Texas State House District 26 in 2012.
Rick has served on the Sugar Land Regional Airport Policy Board; three terms on the Rotary Board of Directors; Finance Chairman at Sugar Creek Baptist Church; Chairman of Rotary Veterans Tribute 2005, 2007 (The Legacy of Freedom) and Honoring America’s Heroes, 2011. Married to Babs with three sons – a Navy Commander FA-18 aviator; a lawyer; and the youngest is in heaven. They have three grandchildren.
He is currently serving in his second term as Texas Representative House District 26 and is the Party’s nominee for reelection in 2014. He served on the House Republican Caucus Policy Committee, Elections Committee and Defense and Veterans Affairs Committee during his first Session and on the Appropriations Committee, Subcommittee Vice Chairman of Articles I, IV and V, and on the Public Health committees in his second Session.
Rick Miller served his country in the United States Navy for 30 years after graduation from the United States Naval Academy.
As a Naval aviator, he flew nearly all of the Navy’s carrier-based aircraft including the A7E Corsair II, FA18 Hornet, F14 Tomcat, A6E Intruder, A4M Skyhawk and F8 Crusader.
Rick held top leadership positions, commanded a Squadron, Air Wing and a Naval Air Station. He served as the Senior Fellow on the Chief of Naval Operations Strategic Studies Group, which was tasked to design the “Navy after next” looking out into the future 30 to 50 years.
He was assigned and completed three tours of duty in the Pentagon which included one on the staff of the Chief of Naval Operations, one in the Office of the Under Secretary of the Navy and then on the Chairman of the Joints of Staff in J8 where he headed a major force structure and weapons capability review of “which Service needs what to fight and win two nearly simultaneous wars.”
Rick transitioned from the Navy with the rank of Captain. He was awarded the Defense Superior Service Award, Legion of Merit (3 awards), Navy Meritorious Service Award (3 awards) and the Navy Commendation Medal.
Rick believes in the Founders’ intent of fundamental constitutional values of conservatism with less government, low taxes, individual responsibility, less regulation and a strong pro-business environment with limited government intervention and regulation.
He also believes in life and American family values. He is a champion for conservative family values that includes a total pro-life and faith-based foundation.
Rick stands for a strong state sovereignty position with a determined focus on legal immigration, border security and the elimination of sanctuary cities. He is also working to eliminate human trafficking in all forms.
Rick is a fiscal conservative who believes in total transparency in budgetary issues and decisions. He also favors the “zero-based” budgeting process for all Texas government agencies and operating entities. A strong supporter of eliminating all deferrals of fees and taxes collected for specific purposes, is a steadfast supporter of the United States and Texas Constitutions.
Rick has demonstrated exceptional leadership qualities throughout his military, business and political experiences and in positions held.
As a graduate of the United States Naval Academy, he completed 30 years of service holding significant positions of leadership and being accountable for billions of dollars in operational budgets.
He served in four top leadership positions in the Navy, commanded a carrier squadron, carrier based Air Wing and a Naval Air Station, and was the Senior Fellow on the Chief of Naval Operations Strategic Studies Group, designing the “Navy after next” for the 2030 -2050 timeframe.
Rick has served in two top-level positions in corporate America. He then founded and owns a company focused on leadership development, high-performing teams and strategic planning along with executive coaching. His passion is leadership and helping organizations and people understand the importance of results based leadership to the success of each.
Rick served as the Chairman of the Fort Bend Republican Party before being elected as State Representative for District 26.
